HISTORY WITH A TWIST

HOLLYZONE

Hollyzone History the brainchild of Holly Cruise. With a background in History and a dose of stand up comedy performance on her CV, she decided to combine the two to produce history walks which are fun, interesting, informative and often amusing. Come along to the talks and learn about all kinds of people, places and things. From the history of entire countries, to the lives of intriguing people, to the bawdy and gross weirdness that makes up History’s memorable moments, Holly has stories for everyone which tell us how we got here and what our ancestors got up to.

About Holly

Holly Cruise has an MA in History from the University of Warwick. After university she did some stand up, before realising that talking about the lives of historical figures was far more interesting than talking about her own, as-yet-not-historical, life. The 2017 UK general election prompted Holly into action, specifically the biggest question to come from that – “What are the DUP and should I be worried?”. This led, on St Patrick’s Day March 2018, to ‘A Beginner’s Guide To Irish History’, the first Hollyzone History show. From there she has gone from strength to strength, performing shows about naughty popes, the Space Race and fascinating queens across the country. In summer 2019 she toured her show ‘Fearsome Fabulous Female Pirates’ around the UK, including at SheFest in Beverley and the Levy Fringe Festival in Manchester.
